Save the Bees

Many of my non-beekeeper friends have asked me why it is important to save the bees in our ecosystem. The simple answer to this is that:
Without bees and their natural pollination, food production around the world would be severely damaged.
The Problem:
Since the late 1990’s, bees have been disappearing and there has also been a decline in honey bee colonies.
Causes:
-Pesticides (insecticides) are the biggest factors when it comes to the disappearance of bees. These pesticides are applied to the current chemical-intensive agriculture system.
-Climate Change is another cause relating to the decline of bees. Changes in rainfall, extreme weather events, and higher temperatures can affect bees.
-Monocultures are sustained with high amounts of fertilisers and pesticides, resulting in a lack of biodiversity in and around cropland areas. This limits the food amount that bees have access to.
Solution:
The world needs to move from industrial-agriculture that is chemical heavy to ecological farming. This will guarantee safe farming which will produce healthy food. Ecological farming protects soil, water, the climate, and helps to promote biodiversity. Ecological farming can not only help the environment and humans to live healthier lives but it will aid in the saving of bees from chemicals.
